To decrease the overall weight while maintaining the large z-scanning
range, we developed a new type of miniature z-focusing device based on a nanotech micro-tunable lens (Tlens®,
Polight, Horten, Norway) (Farghaly et al., 2016) and named it μTlens (Figure 2C, 2D and Figure S2A-C). We
assembled a quartet μTlens (4 flat lenses stacked together, Figure 2C), which weighed only 0.06 g, spanning a volume
of 4.5×4.5×2.2 mm3
(Figure S2A). The quartet μTlens had a response time of less than 0.4 ms (Figure S2B), an optical
power of ~75 diopter (dpt) (Figure S2C), and a z-scanning range of 240 μm, which is 60 μm more than that of the
previous version of 2P miniscope (Zong et al., 2021) (Figure 2D). The small size of the μTlens allowed it to be
mounted near the MEMS scanner without relay optics (Figure 2A and Supplementary Document, Section 1). The
static driving technology of the MEMS piezo minimizes the driving current and thereby provides high thermal stability
to the μTlens. No temperature increase or focus drift was observed when the focus was switched at 15 Hz or 40 Hz
between multiple imaging planes, or set at max optical power (+51 dpt, or 240 μm) for up to 1 hour of continuous
recording (see also Supplementary Document, Section 4). In contrast, a temperature increase of over 20 degrees
Celsius, accompanied by drift of the focal plane, was noticed after less than 10 min imaging with the previously used
ETL when applied at full optical power (±30 dpt) and driving current (±200 mA) (Supplementary Document, Section

releasing new phone models, and we foresee this will impact the timing of the first smartphone case for poLight. That
said, interest and activity related to TLens® has been, and remains, encouraging.”.


Markets
Customer-related activities continued at a high level in the first quarter. poLight is actively engaged in several segments.
This includes consumer market devices, such as smartphones and accessories, as well as a broad range of professional
applications, such as barcode readers, medical devices and augmented reality. Interest in our solutions remains high,
and the company continues to make progress on several projects with potential customers in these segments. TLens
technology is increasingly being recognised by a wide range of potential customers. Over time, this is expected to
develop into a diversified revenue base for poLight.
Consumer market
The new camera module concept, based on add-in TLens design, is continuing to open new opportunities for different
applications. The focus during the quarter was on smartphone applications, but other applications are also being
explored. These include webcam and, in the longer term, augmented reality cases. When it to comes to the smartphone
market, the company has increasingly started to promote solutions meant for back camera applications. Nevertheless,
the selfie camera solution remains the most relevant in the short/medium term. As mentioned above, some of the Asian
OEMs are suffering due to the situation in China (mainly Covid related), and this will impact the appetite to release new
phone models. The first potential smartphone cases will therefore be pushed back from 2022 to 2023 and beyond. PoC
projects continue, and good technical progress has been made.
At the close of the quarter, poLight’s TLens® is being used in 10 ongoing Proof-of-Concept (PoC) projects relating to the
consumer market. Three of the ongoing PoCs are consumer-oriented augmented reality cases.
Augmented reality (AR) market
During the quarter, the company received a design-in confirmation, including design of a custom package, and purchase
order for TLens® worth in excess of NOK 3,500,000 to support the development of a display solution to be used in AR
applications. This design-in award gives the company an important opportunity to position TLens® for another use case
in the AR spac


TLens is being considered by several other market players for use in next generation AR headsets, and
testing/prototype building is continuing. The TLens® technology’s low power consumption, no gravity sensitivity, high
speed, and compactness are highlighted as key technical benefits. Currently, the company has one confirmed design-
win and is engaged in five projects/design-ins (of which one is for a consumer application) and four ongoing PoCs (three
of which are for consumer applications). The use case for TLens® mainly relates to world-facing cameras, but the
company is also involved in display applications.
The AR market is entering a very important phase, and poLight expects to see several companies releasing new AR
products in the coming years. Most of the initial customer cases relate to the professional/enterprise market, so the
initial volumes will be relatively low. However, it is expected that over time AR devices will address the consumer
market, prompting a significant increase in demand. However, this is likely to be some years down the road. In the
longer term, the AR market is expected to be an important market for the company.
Industrial market
During the quarter, the company received a repeat order related to the EX30/Honeywell reader product. The customer
is reporting good market feedback. This case represents an important reference for poLight and is clearly generating a
lot of interest from other players in the market.
The company is currently involved in two projects (design-ins) and seven ongoing PoCs (two of which are for barcode
applications).

Competition:

Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) A material that provides force and strain when it is heated with an electric current offered by Cambridge Mechatronics Limited 5 . SMA technology is 6("CML"). The technology is using the same principle as VCM since it is moving the lens stack, and it come with some advantage compared to VCM like less complexity and is also smaller in size.

Liquid Lens based on electrowetting The technology has been developed by Varioptic SA, and is currently being commercialized under the brand OptiLux. It is based upon liquid and electrowetting. Two liquids are embedded inside a transparent celland tuned to have the same density, but different indices of refractions the second is an insulator 7. The first liquid is a conductor, while 8. Electrowetting force is used in order to change the curvature radius (wetting angle of one liquid with respect to the other) of the liquid-liquid interface inside the cell. When a voltage is applied, the liquid-liquid interface will glide along the guiding conical surface and change the optical power of the lens. The advantage of such technology is that it can create relatively big aperture tuneable lens, but due to the nature of the technology the thermal stability and the manufacturability will remain a challenge. The technology has not yet been used in any commercially available mobile phones, however it has penetrated non mobile phone market like industrial and barcode market.

Liquid lens based on MEMS Liquid pump The technology is based on a liquid cell (lens) and a MEMS actuator that is pumping/moving the liquid from the periphery of the lens towards the the center area. By applying a voltage to the MEMS actuator, the liquid is pushing on the transparent membrane which is creating the lensing effect. This technology has been created by Wavelens SA. The technology may look very similar to the one of poLight, but it is based on very different principle of actuation and is based on liquid which is making the technology more difficult towards thermal stability and reliability while the high speed performances is questionable since it requires the liquid to move. There are currently very little available information related to this technology.

Liquid or polymer lens and VCM-like actuator This technology is based on liquid or polymer cell (lens) and a classical mechanical actuator (like VCM) that is bending one or both transparent membranes that are used to encapsulate the liquid/polymer. By applying voltage or current to the actuator the membrane is deforming and creating the lensing effect. This technology has been promoted by Optotune AG. The technology is combining a kind of VCM technology and liquid/polymer lens which by nature will suffer of low thermal stability and most likely reliability issues, while the high speed performances will most likley not be achieved since it will be limited by the VCM speed. The company has entered in low volume markets like scientific equipment as well has some industrial market, but not entered the mobile phone market.

Etter totale Emisjons innskudd, sitter selskapet no på ca 173 millioner om vi tar høyde for at selskapet har brukt 20 millioner det siste kvartalet.

When a voltage from a suitable control signal is applied to the piezo elements 1210 and 1212 , the elements function as an actuator to bend the thin glass membrane into a lens shape. Application of higher voltages at the piezo elements cause increased bending of the membrane. Thus, increased optical power is implemented in the tunable lens 1200 with a corresponding change in focal points 1305 and 1405 , as respectively shown in FIGS. 13 and 14.

poLight ASA – design-win confirmation from first Augmented Reality customer
Horten, 1 December 2021 - poLight ASA (OSE: PLT) today announced that the company has received confirmation, and first mass production purchase order, related to an Augmented Reality (AR) product from an unnamed customer. The value of the first purchase order is approximately NOK 360.000 and is expected to be delivered within early second quarter 2022. Customer’s AR product launch is planned to be in the first half year of 2022.

“The Augmented Reality (AR) market is entering a very important phase, and we expect to see several companies releasing new AR products in the coming years. The use cases for most of the initial customer cases are related to the professional/enterprise market and hence the initial volumes are relatively low. However, it is expected that over time that AR devices will address the consumer market and hence demands will increase significantly. This first design-win marks an important and exciting milestone for our company. The actual launch of our customer’s product remains to be seen and until then there will always be some risk for unexpected changes“, said Dr. Øyvind Isaksen, CEO of poLight ASA.

Enn så lenge er størrelsen på ordren neglisjerbar, men markedets reaksjon antyder at dette er en milepel.

Takker for nyttig info fra noen deltagere her, og lurer på om det er noen av dere som har grunnlag for å antyde noe tall?
Tenker da spesielt på potensielt salgsvolum for T-Lens og hvilen enhetspris linsen vil ha innenfor de forskjellige segmentene.

For øyeblikket er det svært vanskelig å vurdere verdien av selskapet i mangel på fremtidige estimater, og investeringen for egen del er mest basert på hvordan markedet har priset selskapet og hvordan visse mål og milepeler innfris.
I tillegg vil jeg forsøke å estimere når selskapet en gang kan nå break-even og/eller drive med positiv kontantstrøm.

Hei - Du befinner deg i den mest informative tråden som finnes om TLens! Bare scroll til topp og les alt om patenter, trender og markedsanalyser/forventninger. Du må pusse brillene godt da for Kramzz har gjort en helt fenomenal jobb med å samle alt!
Bottom Line er at TLens kommer til å få veldig gode markedsandeler i forskjellige segmenter. Pris pr linse er Volumavhengig. Med 10 millione aksjer i selskapet skal det ikke så mye til før det blir stoore penger av det! Og litt for syns skyld: poLight er allerede en stor suksess med de segmentene vi allerede er inne i! Så lesles og kjøpkjøp :-)

Og setter stor pris på det!
Har både lest og kjøpt. Kursen fikk plutselig vinger mens jeg vektet opp på rundt 116, og måtte kontakte megler for at de skulle gjøre mer systematiske kjøp.

Med den infoen jeg har lest er det umulig å beregne en iboende verdi av selskapet.
Analyser må derfor gjøres utelukkende på antagelser og potensiale. Skulle så gjerne hatt noen tall å henge på knaggen.
Hva vil f.eks årsomsetningen til selskapet bli dersom absolutt alle brikker faller på plass og T-lens blir dominerende innenfor relevante segmenter?
Gir det en potensiell 5,10 eller 20-gang på dagens kurs?
(Påstander om kurs 6000 uten noen form for analyse eller tall er naturligvis verdiløse.)

Uten å ha gjort et grundig arbeid kan jeg kaste ballen i luften om noe.
Q3-tall kan tyde på at R&D-kostnadene har toppet ut, og muligens er fallende.
Samtidig legger jeg til grunn at kostander til markedsføring og operasjon/ledelse vil stige.
Med antagelsen om at disse vasker hverandre, sier jeg at faste kostnader eksklusiv avskrivninger blir 45 mill per år.

Legger videre til grunn en bruttomargin på 50% de første årene. (Denne kan stige betydlig ved stordriftsfordelere eller hvis selskapet får "moat".)
Et regnestykke som over gir en nøytral kontantstrøm ved omsetning på 90 mill p.a. ettersom selskapet ikke har finanskostnader.
På hvilket tidspunkt kan vi nå et slikt delmål?

Ovenstående er bare ment som brain-storming.
