Nydelig artikkel som bekrefter det vi har sett komme i lang tid.
Tror Butte har blitt undervurdert, og kommet i bakgrunnen av ML åpningen.
Skal ikke se bort fra at ytterligere utvidelse av Butte er neste steg.

REC is optimistic that tech manufacturing is scaling up. Sutton said the company’s facility in Moses Lake is reopening, a process requiring restaffing the plant with 75 workers initially, with 100 more to follow as production improves. Domestic demand for polysilicon is an important part of the reopening, more specifically U.S. demand for next-generation lithium batteries in electric vehicles. Next-gen lithium batteries use polysilicon to store energy, which means longer travel distances between charges for electric vehicles.

“I think you are going to start seeing it in the next couple years,” Sutton said of the next-gen lithium battery’s arrival. “If you look at Sila, they’ve actually bought space next door to us in Washington. Group 14 raised $400 million just a few months ago.”

Clean energy manufacturing support in Inflation Reduction Act

This historic level of investment is key to achieving American manufacturing independence and clean energy security.

JULY 29, 2022 ANNE FISCHER

Late last year President Biden signed an executive order to boost America’s clean energy economy, which included the goal of attaining 100% carbon pollution-free electricity by 2030, 100% zero-emission vehicle acquisition by 2035, and more. Achieving these goals would require extended dependence on China, which is responsible for much of the solar and renewable energy supply chain. Just two of the downsides to the dependence on imports include the fact that China’s manufacturing sector employs low-cost or forced labor, and its manufacturing facilities are powered with electricity produced from coal-fired plants.

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 contains $370 billion in spending for renewable energy and climate measures. The bill includes over $60 billion for domestic manufacturing across the clean energy supply chain, which includes clean energy vehicles. This historic level of investment is key to achieving American manufacturing independence and clean energy security.

What’s in the bill for US manufacturing?

An investment of $30 billion in production tax credits to accelerate domestic manufacturing of solar panels, wind turbines, batteries, and critical minerals processing.
A $10 billion investment tax credit to build clean technology manufacturing facilities, including those that make electric vehicles, wind turbines and solar panels
$500 million in the Defense Production Act for heat pumps and critical minerals processing
$2 billion in grants to retool existing auto manufacturing facilities to manufacture clean vehicles
Up to $20 billion in loans to build new clean vehicle manufacturing facilities across the United States
$2 billion for National Labs to accelerate breakthrough energy research
Tax credits across the solar supply chain were included:
Manufacturing credit: 100% credit through 2029, 75% in 2030, 50% in 2031, 25% in 2032.
Thin film photovoltaic cell and crystalline photovoltaic cell: $.04 per cell capacity in Wdc.
Photovoltaic wafer: $12/sq. meter.
Solar grade polysilicon: $3/kg.
Polymeric backsheet: $0.04/sq. meter.
Solar module: $0.07 per module capacity in Wdc.
Torque tube: $0.87/kg.
Structural fastener: $2.28/kg.
Central inverter: $0.25 per capacity Wac.
Commercial inverter: $0.015 per capacity Wac.
Residential inverter: $0.06 per capacity Wac.
Microinverter: $0.11 per capacity on Wac.
Battery module: $10 per battery module capacity kWh.
Critical mineral: 10% of costs incurred.
Battery cell: $35 per battery cell capacity kWh.
“With long-term incentives for clean energy deployment and manufacturing, the solar and storage industry is ready to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs and get to work building out the next era of American energy leadership. This is a crucial window of opportunity that we cannot miss, and now Congress must seal the deal and pass this legislation,” said Abigail Ross Hopper, president of the Solar Energy Industries Association.

The bill is expected to head to the Senate floor for a vote as early as next week.

God august!

Hanwha Corporation merges defense division and acquires Hanwha Precision Machinery… Full reorganization of affiliates

Friday 29th July 2022 06:41 PM

Hanwha Corporation will completely reorganize its business lines by selling its defense division to its subsidiary Hanwha Aerospace and acquiring Hanwha Precision Machinery.
Hanwha Corporation held a board of directors meeting on the 29th and decided to acquire Hanwha Precision Machinery and related companies from Hanwha Aerospace to accelerate the secondary battery process equipment business and lay the foundation for the semiconductor process equipment business.

Governance structure before and after reorganization of Hanwha Corporation

On the same day, the board of directors also decided to merge Hanwha E&C, a subsidiary of Hanwha Corporation, and sell Hanwha/Defense Co., Ltd. to Hanwha Aerospace.
It is planning to focus on future businesses by changing the direction of Hanwha Corporation’s existing business, such as gunpowder, trade, defense, and machinery, to energy, materials, equipment, and infrastructure. The key to this decision is to enhance Hanwha Corporation’s own profitability and future growth potential, and increase the value of Hanwha Aerospace’s stake held by Hanwha Corporation (currently Hanwha Corporation’s stake in Hanwha Aerospace is 33.95%), thereby increasing corporate and shareholder value.
The biggest change is Hanwha Corporation/Momentum. Hanwha/Momentum will be combined with Hanwha Precision Machinery, which is in the semiconductor post-process packaging equipment and LED chip mounter business. By combining the capabilities of the two companies, Hanwha Corporation is expected to speed up the eco-friendly energy process equipment business and lay the groundwork for a company specializing in semiconductor process equipment in the mid- to long-term.

MERK GODT DETTE!

If Hanwha/Momentum focuses on ‘equipment’, Hanwha/Global is focusing on ‘materials’. In March, Hanwha Global Co., Ltd. invested about 140 billion won to acquire a 12% stake in REC Silicon, which produces polysilicon for solar power and semiconductors and special gas, and laid the foundation for the eco-friendly energy and materials business. . Hanwha/Global plans to use this to expand its high value-added material business such as secondary batteries and semiconductors.

Bringing back domestic production is no longer a nostalgic aspiration. It is a national security issue. Solar panels produce some of the cheapest electricity, a significant asset at a time of skyrocketing energy prices and aggressive climate targets. China’s domination over the solar supply chain also poses an ever-growing threat to America’s energy independence and financial health.

“This is a globally competitive market the U.S. has fallen behind in,” said Scott Moskowitz, who heads marketing strategy at Qcells North America, a subsidiary of Korean industrial giant Hanwha. “This country never had policies that created the environment possible to compete. This legislation changes things a lot. It will make companies want to invest in new manufacturing in Georgia and around the country.”

Qcells established a manufacturing beach head in Dalton in 2018 at the urging of local officials. Its panels are assembled using wafers and cells from abroad, but the company aims to help reseed a domestic supply chain so that every component of a solar panel can be made in America.

“There is no shortage of demand,” said Moskowitz, standing on the floor of the sprawling Dalton factory. “It is just a question of whether factories like this can exist in this country and be profitable.”

"In order to pass a bill through the reconciliation process, however, the package must comply with a strict set of budget rules. The Senate parliamentarian must decide whether the provisions in the bill meet the rules to allow Democrats to use the filibuster-proof budget process to pass the legislation along straight party lines. Senate Finance Chair Ron Wyden of Oregon announced early Saturday that the clean energy tax portion of the bill "adheres to Senate rules, and important provisions to ensure our clean energy future is built in America have been approved by the parliamentarian." Senate Democrats are still waiting for key rulings from the parliamentarian on Medicare and prescription drug prices."
