U.S. attorney general orders probe of FBI agents' text messages
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has ordered an investigation into missing text messages exchanged between two Federal Bureau of Investigation staffers accused of expressing views against President Donald Trump, the Justice Department said.
Texts between FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page exchanged between Dec. 14, 2016, and May 17, 2017, are among a broader batch of missing phone messages that the FBI’s system failed to store because of a software upgrade glitch on many Samsung 5 cellphones.

“We will leave no stone unturned to confirm with certainty why these text messages are not now available to be produced and will use every technology available to determine whether the missing messages are recoverable from another source,” Sessions said in a statement.
Six congressional committees learned about the missing texts last Friday after they had initially requested copies of Strzok’s and Page’s texts between July 2015 and July 2017.
The failures by the FBI’s system to store the messages were initially uncovered by the Justice Department’s inspector general, who is in the midst of a broad review into whether the FBI made missteps in its handling of the Clinton investigation.

Det jeg skrev om at vinklingen var annerledes på det gamle forumet handler om at der blir det presentert som "Massiv FBI skandale under oppseiling, større enn Watergate". Det handler ikke om saken man har foran seg men om de forventninger man har til saken og de teorier man har om den.
Totalt dreier saken seg om omtrent 50.000 tekstmeldinger mellom FBI-agent Peter Strzok og FBI-advokat Lisa Page over en periode på 2 år -- juli 2015 til juli 2017. En periode på 5 måneder ser ikke ut til å ha blitt lagret -- 14. desember 2016 til 17. mai 2017. Hvis de har hatt samme tempo hele tiden så vil det utgjøre omtrent 10.000 tekstmeldinger som mangler.

Months of missing text messages between two FBI officials have been located, according a letter obtained by The Hill.
Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz told Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) in a letter that the messages spanning from December 2016 to May 2017, previously thought missing due to a technological glitch affecting FBI phones, have been found.
“The [Office of the Inspector General] has been investigating this matter, and, this week, succeeded in using forensic tools to recover text messages from FBI devices,” the letter read.

Some GOP lawmakers in recent days have homed in on an exchange in recently recovered texts in which Strzok and Page make reference to a “secret society.” Johnson, one of the senators who has voiced concerns about this exchange, acknowledged Thursday morning the possibility that the “secret society” reference was made in jest.
“Are you even going to give out your calendars?” Page asked Strzok in one of the messages. “Seems kind of depressing. Maybe it should just be the first meeting of the secret society.”
